The Pregnancy Help Centre of Durham exists to demonstrate the love and mercy of God to anyone experiencing distress due to pregnancy. With locations in Oshawa and Ajax, the Centre offers a safe, welcoming environment where individuals can receive care, encouragement, and practical support.

Under the leadership of Kathy Michel, Executive Director, a team of trained staff and volunteers provides:

  • Free pregnancy testing

  • Counselling and emotional support

  • Prayer and spiritual care

  • Access to infant supplies

  • Prenatal and parenting classes

The Centre is open for drop-in support three days a week, offering hope and help to those in need. Whether facing an unplanned pregnancy or navigating early parenthood, the Pregnancy Help Centre is a place of compassion, guidance, and grace.

Update

In the past year, the Pregnancy Help Centre of Durham said goodbye to Sue Sokol after fifteen years and welcomed Maria Miller on staff as Director of Operations in Oshawa. She has launched the Wonderfully Made program - a celebration of life for children in particular, but the message resonates with everyone. We also organized our first bus trip to March for Life 2024 in Ottawa, an Open House in June, and our first client workshop in September focused on making baby food. If you are interested, our quarterly newsletters highlight activities for you to participate in as we share God’s truth that we are wonderfully made! For updates and pictures, please follow us on Facebook (Pregnancy Help Centre of Durham) and Instagram (@pregnancyhelpcentreofdurham).

The Pregnancy Help Centre of Durham continues to operate two sites in Ajax and Oshawa. We have seen an incredible increase of clients at both our sites. We appreciate your prayers and financial support so our help can remain free and accessible to our families. This year our client flow has doubled with more than 3000 family visits over the course of the year and about 200 new clients with the opportunity to share the gospel with 60 of them in our very first meeting with them. Of course, another ministry to the clients is achieved by our praying community. If you are interested in joining us in prayer, please contact us at phcentre@durham.net and we will add you to our prayer chain. The prayer list is sent out biweekly to those who commit to pray on the behalf of our clients.

We do this work presently with the threat of losing our charitable status – the only support we receive from the federal (or provincial) government. The Pregnancy Help Centre of Durham operates through the kind donations of caring individuals, businesses and churches and by God’s grace.
